There are various theories on the discovery of glass, fascinating theories full of curiosities. Pliny the Elder, in his treatise Naturalis Historia, tells that glass was created for the first time on the banks of a river in Syria, where merchants used blocks of saltpetre which, merging with the sand, gave life to this material entirely. new and hitherto unknown.
According to other sources, however, glass was worked for the first time in India and China, around 1000-1500 BC: there are therefore numerous rumors about the true origin of glass, for the most part derived from information handed down.
Between the 1st and 4th centuries AD, however, we are certain that glass was used in the Roman Empire, where its use spread and was used for the first time also for windows.
